March Poet and Poem of the Month

March 2025

Winning Poem:

Beneath the moon where shadows fall,

I stood, once tangled in a man’s cruel call.

His words like rope, tied tight around my throat –

But now, I unravel them with each breath I devote.

The woman I was – soft, a lover in a storm –

Fell to a tempest, seeking refuge in his form.

I turned from myself, as if love were blind,

Only to find I had abandoned my mind.

How could I not know, how could I not see

That kindness must begin first inside of me?

I handed him my power, gave him my light,

But in his darkness, I was dimmed from sight.

Oh, how I wept on days I could not rise,

Craving tenderness but finding only lies.

Yet in the silence where despair once bloomed,

I learned the lessons that in my heart were groomed.

I let the pain grow roots, I let it teach,

Now I stand unshaken, no longer in reach.

The goddess within me – no man can subdue.

Her strength born from wounds, is fierce and true.

I see now through the fog, I was always whole –

A creature of fire, a whispering soul.

And what is pain but the spark of a flame

That burns away the false, and leaves my true name?

Now I walk through the world, untouched and free,

A goddess reborn, forever to be.
